Our team has a strong, proven track record across various water authorities in the UK working to their strict policies and guidance, using UKAS accredited laboratory and palintest kits, stainless steel fittings we use the correct equipment and testing methods to get you your connection first time.
Chlorinating new mains is crucial to ensure the quality of the drinking water
supply. Water utility companies require effective chlorination and a detailed
chlorination certificate, along with microbiological analysis, before allowing the connection of new pipework to their system.
We offer a full chlorination service for all new mains connections, regardless
of size. We uphold the same high standards for all main sizes and provide
consistent, detailed certification, whether it’s a 25 mm connection or a 125
mm new main pipe.
All of our operatives hold the National EUSR Water Hygiene Card (at a
minimum), enabling them to work on new mains supplies. Additionally, they
possess CSCS/SHEA Water cards, which permit them to work on construction sites.
A chlorination certificate provides documentation that a water system has been properly disinfected through chlorination. It typically includes the following details:
1. System Information: Description of the the new main, size, material and location.
2. Chlorination Details:
Chlorine concentration used during the disinfection process.
- Duration of chlorination (how long chlorine was allowed to remain in the
system). - Date the chlorination was carried out.
- Method used for chlorination.
3. Test Results:
- Before and after chlorine levels to confirm the effectiveness of the
disinfection. - Sampling and analysis results to demonstrate the system is free from
harmful bacteria.
4. Compliance:
- Confirmation that the chlorination process complies with relevant regulations, such as BSEEN 806 / BS 8558.
- Photographic evidence of Palintest kit results (before, during and after) and digital turbidity meter reading.
5. Signed by the Contractor:
- Name and details of the contractor or company who performed the
chlorination. - Signature of the person responsible for carrying out or overseeing the
process.
This certificate serves as proof that the water system has been properly disinfected and is safe for use.

Chlorine is added to the system in a controlled manner, allowing it to circulate and disinfect all parts of the system. After the treatment, the chlorine levels are carefully monitored and adjusted to ensure safe water quality.
Chlorine (Cl) is a chemical commonly used as a disinfectant due to its strong ability to kill bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. It’s widely used in water treatment (e.g., drinking water, swimming pools), disinfection of surfaces, and wastewater treatment to ensure water safety and hygiene.
A chlorination certificate includes details of the disinfected water system, chlorination method, chlorine concentration, duration, test results (before and after chlorination), compliance with relevant regulations, on site photos and the contractor’s details and signature, confirming the system is safe for use.
Bacteriological samples are tested over a set period, and unfortunately, they cannot be fast-tracked due to the laboratory’s adherence to UKAS accreditation standards.
However, we can fast-track chemistry tests such as Turbidity, Colour, Taste, Odour, and others from our laboratory for an additional fee.
The validity of chlorination certificates depends on the water authority; some are valid for 14 days, while others are valid for 30 days. We will coordinate with you to ensure we arrive on-site at the right time, so the sample results are available before the connection date. Additionally, we have strong relationships with many water authorities and can liaise with them directly to save you time.
